A lot of you will be taking a vacation this summer. This most probably means that you will be leaving your poor bass at home all by itself. Here are a few tips to keep your instrument healthy. 1) Loosen your stings about a half a crank of the tuner, or a whole step lower. 2) Don't leave your bass where any direct sunlight will hit it during the day. 3) Make sure to put your bass in its case. 4) Don't leave your bass in a room where the temperature varies much during the course of the day. 5) Unwind your bow! If you do these five things, you should come home to a healthy instrument!

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted anything on my blog, but I had some new ideas for my website, and I thought that I should announce them to my students. I hope to make my website a little more interactive for them so that they can log on and make use of several functions that I will be adding on. I want them to be able to get help with some of the exercises of my design, and possibly even have a play-along for them as well. I look forward to trying to make this a reality, so check back for any updates!

There will be two great opportunities for my students to see some quality double bass performances in the near future! On Monday April 21st, the Hartt School's double bass studio will be performing a recital. This will be a great chance to see many different bassists perform solo works. The next night, on April 22nd, is a performance by the Hartt School's Double Bass Ensemble. This performance will show you the power of basses in numbers! Many different compositions will be performed by various groups of double bassists, including an Western style bass stand-off, and a game of bass bingo. (I also understand that there will be prizes!) Both performances are at 7:30 at the Hartt School of Music.
